Provided are a method for customer edge device auto management and a Provider Edge (PE) device. The method includes that: User Network Interface (UNI) set in the third party operator network receives an Ethernet-Local Management Interface (E-LMI) message transmitted from the Virtual User Network Interface (VUNI) set in the service provider network, wherein the VUNI is used to manage the Remote User Network Interface (RUNI) relating to the Ethernet Virtual Connection (EVC) in the third party operator network; the UNI transforms the single broadcasting Destination Media Access Control (DMAC) address of the E-LMI message to the multi-broadcasting DMAC address; the UNI transmits the transformed E-LMI message to the Customer Edge (CE) device connecting with the UNI. In the embodiments of the invention, the E-LMI message transmitted from the VUNI set in the service provider network can penetrate the third party operator network, which enables the management information of the service provider network is transmitted to the CE device connecting with the third party operator network through the UNI, so that the auto management for the CE device in the cross-domain service can be implemented.
