The method involves monitoring an actual operating condition based on pressure prevailing in a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. A pressure sequence for the chamber is determined. An indicated average pressure is determined based on the determined pressure sequence. Work is determined based on the determined average pressure. The determined work is compared with target-work, which is associated to the actual operating condition. Adaptation of an electrical control of a fuel injector is carried out based on the comparison.
