PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To certainly secure a parking pawl of a parking lock device at a lock release position, to prevent the parking pawl from touching a parking gear when a vehicle travels, and to prevent occurrence of a noise. SOLUTION: In the parking lock device of an automatic transmission, when a shift lever is at the parking position, the parking pawl is caused to oscillate to a lock position by a parking wedge, when the shift lever is at other positions than parking, the parking pawl is secured at the lock release position. The parking pawl includes an engagement part, and the parking wedge and the parking rod include the engagement part for being engaged with the parking pawl. When the parking pawl is moved to the lock release position, the engagement part of the parking pawl is engaged with the engagement part of the parking wedge or parking rod so as to secure the parking pawl at the lock release position.
