A hybrid organic light-emitting device comprises an anode, a cathode, respective adjacent hole and electron transport layers and an emissive layer therebetween. The electron transport layer comprises a metal oxide as a result of which the cathode may be formed of a transparent conductive oxide and the anode of a high work function metal. The metal oxide used for the electron injection layer may be ZrO2: thereby the device exhibits enhanced electron injection and allows the use of a variety of red, green and blue light-emitting polymers.
