PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary input device that is compact in the thickness direction and an electronic apparatus incorporating the rotary input device. SOLUTION: A rotary input device 2 includes: a stator 15; a rotator 14; a signal processing portion 312 that detects a potential between an electrode formed in the rotator 14 and an electrode formed in the stator 15 to produce an output signal; an electrostatic-type encoder 3 that detects an operation (rotation operation and/or pressing operation) by a user to a rotary operator 12 based on the output signal; and a touch sensation presenting portion 4 that includes: an exciting coil 20; a support base 22 that is magnetized by energizing the exciting coil 20; and a rotary operator 12 attracted to the magnetized support base 22, and that presents touch sensation to the user via the rotary operator 12 by making the support base 22 attract the rotary operator 12 according to a user operation detected by the electrostatic encoder 3.
