PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of preserving a composite semipermeable membrane or a membrane element which causes less deterioration of the membrane performance even in a long preservation. SOLUTION: The method of preserving a composite semipermeable membrane having a skin layer containing a polyamide resin on a porous support which preserves the composite semipermeable membrane with at least the skin layer brought into contact with an aqueous solution containing an alicyclic diamine.
