The invention relates to a method for supervising traffic related to a private network and implemented by a translation device (30) interfacing between the private network (3) and a communication network (2). A private address has been allocated to the private network by an address allocation server (20). The method includes a step of translating the private address into a public address in the packet headers related to the private network. The method further includes: a step (F2) of analyzing traffic related to the private network in order to determine at least one traffic characteristic that is specific to the private network; a step (F6) of sending, to the address allocation server (20), an allocation request (M3) for a second public address from the private network, the private network being identified by the private address in said request, said step of sending a request for allocation being intended to be implemented if said at least one determined characteristic has at least one predetermined value (F4). Said supervision method interacts with a method for address allocation to a private network, in which the address allocation server implements the following steps: a step (E6) of receiving a request, from the translation device, for allocating a public address to the private network; and a step (E10) of allocating a public address to the private network. |
