<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element that can emit polarized light. <P>SOLUTION: In the light emitting element 100, at least some region of an active layer 106 constitutes a gain region 160 as a current pathway of the active layer 106; first and second faces 105 and 107 of the active layer 106's exposed face have a mutually opposite positional relationship in the laminated structure 120; the gain region 160 is provided from a first end face 170 on the first face 105 side up to a second end face 172 on the second face 107 side; and when viewed plane-wise from the laminating direction of the active layer 106, a line Q connecting a center 170a of the first end face 170 and a center 172a of the second end face 172 inclines with respect to the vertical line P of the first end face 105, at least the first end face 170 of the gain region 160 is an emitting face, and a polarized light selection member 130 separates, at the first end face 170, light produced at the gain region 160 into a P polarization component and an S polarization component. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
