In a test stand environment, a plurality of sensors having related measuring amplifiers and measurement data evaluation units are required. Corresponding cabling between the individual components of the measurement chains is provided. Because the cabling must be installed manually, however, said cabling is very susceptible to defect. The invention relates to a method and an assembly by means of which such defects can be simply and independently identified, especially between the measuring amplifiers 3 and the measurement data evaluation unit 2. According to the invention, the measurement data evaluation unit 2 sends a query signal to the measuring amplifiers 3 via a query line 7 and the measuring amplifiers 3 send a reply signal to the measurement data evaluation unit 2 via the measurement signal lines 6 as a reply to the query signal.
