PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reproducing resolving power without being restrained by the thickness of a magnetoresistance effect element with respect to a magnetoresistive effect magnetic head to be used for a magnetic disk device etc. SOLUTION: The magnetoresistive effect magnetic head consists of; a magnetoresistive effect element 102, upper and lower magnetic shields 101 and 104 formed to insert the magnetoresistive effect element; and upper and lower part magnetic shield narrow parts 105 and 107 formed in medium facing surface sides of the magnetoresistive effect element with In a position where the magnetoresistive effect element 102 is not exposed to a medium opposing face, a magnetization free layer 103 of the magnetoresistive effect element is formed in the position near to the gap comprising the non-magnetism part 106, and the gap between the upper and lower part magnetic shield narrow parts 105 and 107 is made smaller than the gap between the upper and lower part magnetic shields near the medium opposing face.
