The method involves injecting a polymer melt into an injection mold. Geometry of impressions forming cavity in the mold is designed such that radial extent of an inner space in a preform body produced is not greater than radial extent of an inner space in a neck region. Preforms (14, 28) are removed from a removal gripper by a transfer gripper and are transferred into a post cooling device. The preforms in the removal gripper and/or the post-cooling device are inflated by positive pressure such that geometry of the inflated preform body is larger than the cavity in the injection mold. An independent claim is also included for a device for producing preforms.
