<p>Disclosed is a perpendicular magnetic recording medium at least comprising a non-magnetic substrate, a backing layer, a base layer, an intermediate layer and a perpendicular magnetic recording layer, these layers being laminated in this order on said non-magnetic substrate, wherein said backing layer comprises a soft magnetic film having an amorphous structure, said base layer contains an NiW alloy containing one or both of Co and Fe, the content of W in the NiW alloy is 3 to 10 atm%, the total content of Co and Fe in the NiW alloy is 5 atm% or more but less than 40 atm%, the saturation flux density (Bs) of the NiW alloy is 280 emu/cm3 or more, the thickness of the base layer is 2 to 20 nm, and said intermediate layer contains Ru or an Ru alloy.</p> |
