PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary compressor high in performance and high in reliability capable of properly reducing a thrust load acting on a cylinder by a simple structure. SOLUTION: The rotary compressor includes a sealed container 1; a piston 11 rotatively driven by a shaft 8; a frame 16 rotatably supporting the shaft 8; the cylinder 12 having a cylindrical part housing the piston 11 in an eccentric state, having one end of the cylindrical part blocked by an end plate 12A, rotatably supported to the frame 16, and rotating in the same direction as the piston 11; and a vane slidably attached in a vane groove formed at an outer circumference of the piston 11, and forming a compression chamber 13 by slide-contacting with a tip on an inner cylindrical face of the cylinder 12. A back pressure chamber 18 airtightly partitioned off from a space retained at discharge pressure by seal grooves 17a, 17b is provided in the frame 16 at a back face side of the end plate 12A, and the back pressure chamber 18 is made to communicate with an intake port 15b to provide intake pressure in the back pressure chamber 18.
