<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine, appropriately suppressing deterioration of exhaust characteristics caused by lengthening of unburnt fuel supply time. <P>SOLUTION: An electronic control unit 23 performs post injection by a fuel injection valve 16, thereby supplying unburnt fuel to a PM filter 19 disposed in an exhaust passage 18 to regenerate the PM filter 19.
