<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of a NULL state and to improve precision of demodulation without depending upon a reception environment. <P>SOLUTION: When it is determined that a demodulating function unit 100 is operating as part of a reader/writer, a control unit 106 allows a digital demodulator 104a to perform demodulation in a phase shift demodulation mode, and allows an output selection unit 105 to select and output a signal s10. When it is determined that the demodulating function unit is operating as part of a contactless IC card, the control unit further determines a type estimation result. When it is determined that the type estimation result is TypeA, the control unit allows the digital demodulator 104a to perform demodulation, and allows the output selection unit 105 to select and output a signal s11.
