PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide spherical activated carbon which is obtained by carbonizing and activating a spherical phenol resin as a raw material, and has a pore diameter of 7.5-15,000 nm and a pore volume of≥0.25 mL/g, and good adsorption capability. SOLUTION: As a result of the investigation of the carbonization and the activation using spherical phenol resins prepared by various production processes, it is found that the spherical activated carbon having a pore diameter within a range of 7.5-15,000 nm and a pore volume of≥0.25 mL/g is obtained by heat-activating the carbonized spherical phenol resin for a long time of≥20 h, preferably≥25 h at a furnace temperature of about 650-1,250°C in a steam atmosphere in an activation process after carbonization process.
