<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a game system capable of executing various games using three-dimensional positional information. <P>SOLUTION: In a game system 1, a game device 2 executes a game program recorded on an optical disk and causes a television receiver 5 to display video of a game. A tablet 4 detects the position of a controller 3 in a three-dimensional space above an operation surface 4a and generates three-dimensional positional information indicating the position of the controller 3. A user plays the game by moving the controller 3 while lifting the controller above the operation surface 4a. The game device 2 uses not only information transmitted from the controller 3 but also the three-dimensional positional information as operational information relating to the game.
