PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect the copyright by suppressing creation of illegal copy when transmitting contents while using a LAN, and to prevent the content transmission from getting out of a range of personal use. SOLUTION: Prior to transmitting contents, in a content transmitting apparatus and a content receiving apparatus, authentication information in a command request with predetermined authentication information is determined or an authentication is determined in accordance with a time to the arrival of a response corresponding to the command request with the predetermined authentication information. If not authenticated, contents are not sent to the content receiving apparatus. Thus, when transmitting contents over a network, the copyright can be effectively protected.
