PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image quality as a main objective in an image forming apparatus using LEDs as a light source, and to detect a position as a sub objective of an abnormality occurrence point with sufficient accuracy. SOLUTION: An abnormal image detecting apparatus has a distance measuring module which measures a floating amount of an original from a glass base, and a distance measuring data processing module which carries out calculation processing of the distance measuring data of a drive and the floating amount of the distance measuring module, and also prepares a determination module which calculates inclination of a reading plane of the original based on the distance measuring data of the floating amount, compares the calculated inclination of the original plane and a halation occurring angle, and if the inclination of the original plane is in a range of the halation occurring angle, it determines that occurrence of halation is predicted.
