PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform obstacle detection which does not need to provide some equipment on a path in advance and does not need a complicated operation. SOLUTION: A terminal device with which a user detects an obstacle includes an ultrasonic sensor for detecting an obstacle around the terminal device. Information detected by the ultrasonic sensor is notified to the user as information on the circumference of the user and information on an obstacle in a prescribed direction. Otherwise, in an obstacle detecting method for making the user of the terminal device including the ultrasonic sensor for detecting an obstacle around, information detected by the ultrasonic sensor is notified to the user as information on the circumference of the user and information on an obstacle in a prescribed direction.
