The system has a sensor i.e. camera, for recording surrounding, and a microphone directly attached at a desired sound source. A data evaluation module detects a lane. A warning device delivers a warning signal only during an unintentional lane change. Purpose of the lane change is detected by a condition of a vehicle indicator. The microphone determines the condition of the indicator. A data storage stores information about sound characteristics of indicator noise based on respective vehicle types, which are selected by a user.
