<p>Disclosed is an image encoding device which, when predicting pixels to be encoded in intra-screen prediction, improves the prediction precision near a contour which is an area border. The image encoding device is provided with an area processing unit, an intra-screen predicting unit, and an entropy encoding unit. The area processing unit has an area determination unit which carries out area determination within a picture, and an area encoding unit which compresses and encodes area information. In the intra-screen predicting unit, pixels to be encoded are predicted on the basis of pixels in the vicinity of the pixels to be encoded, and a prediction error image is generated. The intra-screen predicting unit has a function for determining, on the basis of the area information, to which area pixels in the vicinity belong and correcting prediction parameters applicable to intra-screen prediction near the area border as necessary (see Fig. 1).</p> |
