Embodiments of the present invention relate to a pump light source for Raman amplification, and a Raman amplifier. The pump light source comprising a semiconductor laser (3), and an external resonator (5) arranged to keep the predetermined central wavelength of the laser light emitted from said semiconductor laser notwithstanding fluctuation of a driving current of said semiconductor laser, wherein a Raman gain profile is controlled by adjusting the driving current of said semiconductor laser.
