Sintered bodies with the characteristics of bronze are produced by compacting and sintering a mixture of copper coated iron powder and tin powder or alternatively the iron powder may be coated with separate layers of copper and tin and then compacted and sintered. Swedish iron powder is coated with copper by immersion in a solution of copper sulphate and ammonium sulphate. A sintered bearing containing 78% iron, 20% copper and 2% tin was produced by sintering at 800 DEG C. in cracked ammonia.
