PURPOSE: An image forming apparatus and control method thereof are provided to increase the reliability of operation and to minimize power consumption of a main controller in a standby mode. CONSTITUTION: An image forming unit(110) forms an image. A main control unit(160) controls the operation of an image generator. A USB interface unit(120) transmit and receives USB data with a host apparatus(100). A power supply unit(140) supplies operation power to the main controller and the image forming unit. A switching unit(150) selectively switches operation power according to the control of the main control unit. A sub control unit outputs a power control signal.
