[Also in Group XXVI] A valve in the steam supply to a turbine is actuated by a velodyne comprising an amplifier and an electric motor driving a tachometer generator providing negative feedback to the amplifier, the motor operating the valve through a gear-box. The input to the amplifier of the velodyne is derived from a differential amplifier which receives a control current and a negative feedback signal from a tachometer generator coupled to the turbine. A transducer connected across the inlet and outlet of the turbine is operated differentially in accordance with the steam pressure across the turbine or part thereof and produces a negative feedback signal which is amplified and applied to the input of the velodyne. The negative feedback in accordance with turbine speed has a slow response to valve movement, whilst the pressure signal has a rapid response and permits a stable control of turbine speed.
