990,998. Glazing and panel framing members. KAWNEER CO. Aug. 23, 1961 [March 17, 1961], No. 30434/61. Heading E1R. A gutter frame or inner frame section 22 (i.e. a section adapted to be secured to a building) and a face or outer frame section 24 (i.e. a section adapted to be assembled with the gutter section from outside the building) are readily assembled by a straight lateral relative movement and are held against relative rotation by tongues 64 and 70 and grooves 74, 68 of the main webs 60, 62 and are held rigidly against lateral separation by the clip 34 positively retained by the bead 66C around which the edge 82 of the clips fits and groove 66D into which the edges of a pair of ears 92 are deformed to fit. The tip portion 84 of the clip 34 engages the surface of an auxiliary web 88 on the face section 24 and a ridge or wedge-shaped dog portion 90 on the main web 62 of the face section snaps over a wedge or detent 86 struck out of the main body portion of the clip 34, the sections thus assembled provide panel receiving openings, the panels 30, 32 being clamped between the interfitting sections. Gaskets 54, 56 for sealing the panels against rain, etc. are assembled in channels 50 provided on the opposing edges of the gutter and face sections. In a modification the sections are held together without the clip by metal-to-metal interfitting tongues and grooves on the main webs provided the panel between the sections is in place (Fig. 18, not shown). The framing members made up from the gutter and face sections may be used as transoms and mullions fitted together in a frame system of a shop front or curtain walling. U.S.A. Specification 3,023,859 is referred to. |
