The method involves placing an object (O) in front of a luminous surface (2) to illuminate a backlight. The object illuminated at the backlight is captured using a pick-up device (3) e.g. camera, so as to obtain an image with a silhouette of the object. The silhouette of the object is exploited on an illuminated bottom to obtain geometrical parameters of the object. An envelope surface of the object is defined as intersection of conical surfaces generated by a generatrix (G) issued from a pick-up point. An independent claim is also included for an installation for analyzing geometrical parameters of the object.
