PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module in which the optical axis of the external waveguide of an external waveguide substrate is hardly shifted with respect to the internal waveguide of a mount substrate by reinforcing a bonded part so that it is not peeled off even when external tensile force is acted on the external waveguide substrate. SOLUTION: The optical module includes the mount substrate 1 on which an optical element 12a is provided and the external waveguide substrate 2 connected to the mount substrate 1. The connection piece 5 of the external waveguide substrate 2 is laminated and fixed on the surface 11 of the mount substrate 1 in a state where the core part 16 of the mount substrate 1 and the core part 21 of the external waveguide substrate 2 are optically coupled. Also provided are: a submount substrate 7 on the surface of which the mount substrate 1 is provided; and a fixing member 40 which is provided on the submount substrate 7, another component in the submount substrate, or the external waveguide substrate 2, and fixes the external waveguide substrate 2 on the submount substrate 1.
