<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that prevents the rear end of paper passing through a transfer nip from being soiled with toner by friction. <P>SOLUTION: A photoreceptor drum 31 rotates at a first circumferential speed. A transfer roller 34A is disposed in firm contact with the photoreceptor drum 31, thereby forming the transfer nip. A fixing part 36 rotates at a second circumferential speed higher than the first circumferential speed. A sensor 240 detects paper conveyed near the transfer roller 34A. A sensor 250 detects paper conveyed near the fixing part 36. A CPU 300 rotates the transfer roller 34A at the first circumferential speed until the leading end of paper reaches the transfer nip. Thereafter, the CPU 300 rotates the transfer roller 34A at a third circumferential speed higher than the first circumferential speed when the leading end of the paper reaches the transfer nip.
