In a machine for forming " blister packages " a continuous web 1 of board or like material is fed to a station 3 which punches holes 4 and slots 9 in it, a thermoplastic film 12 is then fed over the board and both are fed into a heating and vacuum-forming station 11 (see Division B5), in which the film 12 is formed through the holes 4 in the board, and the film and board simultaneously heat-sealed together to provide reinforced containers 14; the containers are fed to a conventional filling station 15, and an overhead closing film 17, of thermoplastic film, paper, or plastics-coated aluminium foil, sealed to the container mouths in the station 16; flaps 10, formed in the board web by the slots 9, are then folded up and over the sealed container mouths and sealed in position by a spot welding device 18, the complete containers then being conveyed by a device 20 to cutters 21 which divide the connected containers up individually or into groups. Alternatively, Fig. 1, the film (12) is fed under the board web, and the closing film 17 and station 16 omitted; a separate heating means (11<SP>1</SP>) is provided adjacent the vacuum-forming station (11). The holes 4 may be formed with flaps (5-8), Fig. 5, which, on vacuum-forming the film 12, and depending on whether the film is positioned above or below the board, are folded down either inside (126, 127), Fig. 8, or outside, Figs. 9-15, the formed container to reinforce the sides, and, Fig. 9, the bottom. Again, the portion cut out to form the hole 4 may be used to reinforce the bottom only of the container, Fig. 16. The holes 4 may be of various shapes. Packages adapted for containing tablets in individual compartments may be formed, Figs. 4 and 17-20. The flaps (10), Fig. 5, may be provided with holes (19) for the " pressing through " of the container contents. Again, flaps may be formed on both sides of the container and folded underneath to protect the " blister," and retained in position by a tongue and slot, Figs. 11-13. |
