A hook comprises a body 20 having a hook formation 2, 2a, first channel 38 which opens into the gap 24 of the hook formation, a second channel 52 communicating with the first channel, a locking bar 40 movable in the first channel between positions in which it protrudes into and is retracted from, the gap in the hook formation respectively to retain and free a member 26 received in the hook formation, yieldable means 48 biassing the locking bar into the protruding position, a release bar 54 slidable in the second channel and engageable with the locking bar and operable by means of a member 74 slidable on the body to move the release bar against spring means 70 to withdraw the locking bar and free the member 56 retained in the hook formation 24. As shown, the free end 64 of the release bar is engaged with the locking bar through a pin and hook connection 68/64 and the member 74 which is pivoted to the release bar, includes surfaces (80) Fig. 2 (not shown) at which the member may be struck by a hammer to drive the member in the releasing direction against the spring 70. |
