PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing the carbon fiber sheet precursor or carbon fiber sheet, by which the high quality long carbon fiber sheet precursor or carbon fiber sheet can be produced at a low cost, even when the sheet is a nonwoven fabric-like or paper-like thin sheet, and to provide the carbon fiber sheet precursor or carbon fiber sheet. SOLUTION: The method for producing the long carbon fiber sheet (10') comprises coating either the final end portion of the first carbon fiber sheet precursor (11) or the starting end portion of the second carbon fiber sheet precursor (12) to be bound, with an adhesive layer (21) comprising a phenolic resin and a carbon material, wherein the adhesive layer (21) is discontinuously coated in the longitudinal direction of the carbon fiber sheet precursor, superposing the starting end portion of the second carbon fiber sheet precursor (12) on the final end portion of the first carbon fiber sheet precursor (11), adhering the superposed portion (20) with a heat press device (35) to bind the end portions of the first and second carbon fiber sheet precursors (11, 12) to each other, and then continuously carbonizing the bound carbon fiber sheet precursor (10).
