PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an apparatus, method and program for starting a device accessory mechanism which, when a start modes of accessory mechanisms affiliated to a device are different by a difference in lengths of key depression times, actualize a target mode within a time as short as possible. SOLUTION: When depression of a specific key 13 is detected by a depression-time detection download module 16, firmware of a corresponding accessory mechanism is read from a firmware storage 12 and downloaded to the relevant accessory mechanism. When an start mode is determined according to a length of a depression time of the specific key 13, a start mode setting module 18 sets the accessory mechanism to the start mode.
