摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of actuating exhaust-gas lambda in an exhaust gas canal of a dilution-operated internal combustion engine, and a controller therefor. <P>SOLUTION: An exhaust-gas lambdasonde includes a first electrode disposed in a gas measurement chamber connected to the exhaust gas canal and a second electrode disposed in a reference gas canal equipped with an oxygen reservoir. The second electrode is connected to the first electrode through an oxygen ion-conductive solid electrolyte. After introducing internal combustion engine operation in an excessively concentrated state, the effectiveness of a lambda signal is evaluated in a first time interval. After a lapse of a first time period, a pump current flowing through the two electrodes is reversed only for a second time period. After a lapse of the second time period, the direction of the pump current is restored to its original state to revaluate whether the lambda signal is effective.
