PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a high-definition, gray-scale (monochromatic) image with less influence of "developed color shift" or "transfer of developed color", even when a slight variation in ejection amount occurs upon formation of the gray-scale (monochromatic) image. SOLUTION: When a gray-scale (monochromatic) mode is set, a density signal corresponding to each of an achromatic color dot and a small chromatic color dot is generated based on a brightness signal so that the density signal corresponding to the achromatic color dot may have a value larger than the density signal corresponding to the small chromatic color dot, in the whole brightness signal range. Accordingly, even the slight "developed color shift" generated when recording the achromatic dot can be corrected by the small chromatic dot having a hue which is opposite to the color shift direction, then, the high-definition gray-scale image with less "developed color shift" and less "transfer in developed color is formed.
