PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner surely removing dust adhering to a filter. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner includes: a dust collecting case 3 to which the air containing dust sucked from a suction opening 6 by a motor-driven blower 2 is introduced; a filter case 13 disposed in the dust collecting case 3 to scavenge the sucked dust; an opening portion 20 located above the filter 13 communicating the interior of the dust collecting case 3 with the outside air, and different from the suction opening 6; first opening and closing means 21 opening and closing the opening portion 20 and divided into at least two or more parts; and second opening and closing means 25 located on the upstream side of the first opening and closing means 21 to open and close the passage for sucked air. In the sucking state of the motor-driven blower 2, the second and first opening and closing means 25, 21 are closed, and after the pressure in the dust collecting case 3 is set to a low negative pressure state, the first opening and closing means 21 is opened and closed at least once, and dust adhering to the filter 13 is removed by an outside air flow 50 flowing into the dust collecting case 3 from the opening portion 20 by a pressure difference between the pressure in the dust collecting case 3 and the atmospheric pressure.
