In a conveyer belt comprising a continuous mat of wire mesh formed by a plurality of cylindrical wire helices 29 arranged in parallel relationship with overlapping edges interlocked with each other and a covering 12 on one side of the mat to provide a flat surface, fastening clips 10 for attaching the covering to the mat are arranged at space locations, each clip 10 being in the form of a one-piece strip folded to provide a loop (Fig. 4) projecting into the end of a cylindrical wire element 29, a second loop 33 overlying the covering 12 and an angular end 34 projecting through the covering and between the loops of the underlying wire helix to lock the covering 12 to the mat. A pliers-like tool (Fig. 6, not shown) is used to close each clip from an open position (Fig. 5, not shown), to drive a pointed end 35 of the end 34 through the covering 12 and into the position shown in Fig. 4. |
