Provided is a composite molded article which has high resistance to peeling at the interface thereof and suppresses excessive peeling of a fiber-reinforced polymer portion even when subjected repeatedly to thermal shock. The composite molded article comprises a metal member having a surface of a metal base; and a fiber-reinforced polymer portion constituted of a polymer material as a matrix for covering at least a part of the surface of the metal member and a plurality of reinforcing fibers for reinforcing the matrix. The surface of the metal member has projections juxtaposed regularly or irregularly at a pitch distance larger than the diameters of the reinforcing fibers. The juxtaposed projections form spaces for penetration of a part of the matrix and penetration of at least a part of the reinforcing fibers.
