PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid ejection device eliminating the bubbles of a liquid generated in a cap, when cleaning a liquid ejection head, and to provide a cleaning method. SOLUTION: An inkjet printer includes: a recording head 19 ejecting ink from each nozzle 22; the cap 24 which is abutted on the nozzle forming surface 19a of the recording head 19, so as to surround each nozzle 22 to form a sealed space S between the cap 24 and the recording head 19; an ink absorbing material 26 arranged in the cap 24; a tube pump 34 sucking the inside of the cap 24; and a holding plate 27 constituting a heating body locally heating the inside of the cap 24.
