METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR SENDING MULTIMEDIA BIT STREAM

A method for sending a multimedia bit stream is disclosed. The method comprises a process of encapsulating the multimedia bit stream into packets and also includes the following processing steps: setting a buffer, and putting the packets to be sent into the buffer; when an adjustment period arrives, the number of the packets expected to be sent during the current adjustment period is determined according to the total number of the current buffering packets in the buffer; the number of the packets actually sent during the current adjustment period is determined according to the number of the packets expected to be sent, and the packets are sent according to the number of the packets actually sent during every sending period of the current adjustment period. A system for sending a multimedia bit stream is also disclosed, which can reduce the possibility that the instant sending bit rate of the multimedia bit stream exceeds the bandwidth of the system. The sending process is smoothed and the multimedia bit stream can be sent relatively evenly. Video services of higher quality can be therefore provided to users.
