The grill has a protection grid (1) consisting of three-dimensional sectional strips (2), which are arranged parallel together. The sectional strips are angled so as to support a missile and to control penetration of splinter into an engine space. The strips are cut from curable armor steel and are heated to temperature above a point. The strips are brought into final shape in a press tool and are hardened in the press tool. The sectional strips are divided into a region with reduced wall thickness and into a region with increased wall thickness.
