<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus which has a mechanism capable of easily identifying an error or the like in data reading to quickly discover the problem and take countermeasures because a printing medium such as a check is discharged the same as in the normal case even when the error or the like occurs in data reading of the printing medium, and which can print feeding back read data, and to provide a printing method. <P>SOLUTION: The printing apparatus is equipped with a plurality of discharge means which can discharge the printing medium in different directions, so that a different discharge means can be selected according to a printing medium with the problem in which the error or the like occurs in data reading of the printing medium, and to a printing medium without the problem. The problem can be easily identified, and a quick countermeasure can be taken.
