PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of detecting a wire break in a high voltage generating device which enables precise monitoring of an instantaneous wire break to be generated in a low voltage cable, especially of a high voltage generating device including a Cockcroft Walton boosting circuit (CW circuit), among the other high voltage generating device, and further, which can contribute to making an electrostatic coating process highly efficient and smooth. SOLUTION: The method for detecting a wire break in the high voltage generating device 9 is contrived for detecting the wire break of the low voltage cable 23 (each line 23a, 23b, 23c, 23d and 23f). That is, whether the wire break has actually occurred in each lines 23a, 23b, 23c, 23d and 23f or not, can be detected by the difference in the combination pattern of the "positive", "negative" and "zero" of a time differential value of an IM signal value of a CW circuit 25 during boosting a working voltage and the" positive", "negative" and "zero" of a time differential value of a VM signal value after boosting the working voltage by the CW circuit 25.
