PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for simply calculating torque based on sine values and cosine values output from rotation angle sensors. SOLUTION: This torque detector includes a first subtracter 62, a second subtracter 63, a first multiplier 64, a second multiplier 65, and an adder 66. The first subtracter 62 calculates differences between a sine value output from a first rotation angle sensor 41, a sine value corresponding to a rotation angleβof a second rotary shaft, and a sine value output from a second rotation angle sensor 42 outputting a cosine value, the angle sensor 41 outputting a sine value and a cosine value corresponding to the rotation angleαof a first rotary shaft. The second subtracter 63 calculates a difference between a cosine value output from the angle sensor 41 and a cosine value output from the angle sensor 42. The multiplier 64 calculates the square of a calculation result of the first subtracter 62. The multiplier 65 calculates the square of a calculation result of the second subtracter 63. The adder 66 adds up a calculation result of the multiplier 64 and a calculation result of the multiplier 65. Torque is calculated based on a calculation result of the adder 66.
