PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical seal not degrading the driven performance of a driven ring. SOLUTION: An O ring 3 and a depressing ring 4 are housed in a housing groove 5 formed in a casing C. The O ring 3 is depressed by the depressing ring 4 and brought into close contact with the casing C and the driven ring 1 to seal a portion between the casing C and the driven ring 1 in such a manner that the driven ring 1 can be driven.
