PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer or the like in which a user selects a paper sheet feeding step where a paper sheet to be used for a due processing is mounted, when a printing is suspended because of the lack of a paper sheet in a paper sheet feeding step, and the user desires to select another paper sheet feeding step and continue printing. SOLUTION: The printer includes a table recording what kind of a paper sheet is mounted in each paper sheet feeding step and a table recording the relation between the kind of the paper sheet and a paper sheet processing applicable to the paper sheet. Then, when it is detected that a paper sheet feeding step in use has no paper sheet, it is determined which paper sheet feeding step has a paper sheet to be used for a paper sheet processing to be applied to it, based on the information obtained from the two tables, the paper sheet feeding step available for the paper sheet processing is decided, and the information on the paper sheet feeding step is displayed. Then the user is made to select one of the paper sheet feeding steps, as a step to execute paper feeding, out of the displayed paper sheet feeding step information. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
