The system (10) has an air-conditioning unit (11) to heat and cool a passenger compartment (D) in an electric car (1) by electrical power supplied from a battery (3). An adjusting unit (17) optionally adjusts temperature of a target passenger compartment. A control unit (13) selects setting temperature from a group of setting temperatures based on a travel state i.e. speed, of the car, where the group of temperatures has a combination of setting temperatures including different temperatures. The control unit operates a heating device of the air-conditioning unit based on selected temperature. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an air conditioning system that is operated by electrical power supplied from a battery installed in an electric car.
