PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus that uses dark color toners and light color toners whose colors are the same (e.g., any of cyan (C), magenta (M), yellow (Y), and black (K)), the image forming apparatus being configured to achieve high image quality, be compact, and free from a decrease in printing speed. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus forms color images on a plurality of latent image carriers by using the light color toners and dark color toners. In the image forming apparatus, a plurality of developing devices are arranged on at least one of the latent image carriers. The light color toners are used in the first developing device located upstream while the dark color toner developers are used in the second and subsequent developing devices located downstream from the first developing device.
