PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of quickly starting image heating (image formation) by a rapid and initial rise of the temperature of each part of an image heating device using a belt member when starting the image forming apparatus in a sleep state to start the image formation. SOLUTION: During a fixing operation, a pressure belt 120 is set to a pressurizing position and comes into press-contact with a heating belt 140, but when finishing the image formation, the pressure belt rotates by an angle of 10°and separates from the heating belt 140 to be brought into an standby state. After the standby state continues for one minute, the pressure belt returns to a position of 3°, stops heating and rotating, and shifts to the sleep state. Thereafter, when a new image formation job is inputted in the sleep state, the pressure belt returns to a position of 0.8°to perform preparation operation for the heating and rotating.
